Erickson Senior Living Supports American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Baltimore

February 6, 2024
Erickson Senior Living is supporting the American Cancer Society, including the Hope Lodge in Baltimore.

Erickson Senior Living, a leading manager and developer of a national network of continuing care retirement communities, recently committed $25,000 to the American Cancer Society, including sponsorship of a guest room at the Hope Lodge in Baltimore, a community that provides a home away from home for cancer patients receiving active treatment and their caregivers.

Erickson Senior Living leaders visited the Hope Lodge in January to celebrate this commitment, tour the community, meet with staff, and learn about future expansion plans. In attendance were Chief Operating Officer Gregg Colon, Chief Human Resources Officer Nicole Walker, and Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Taneika Herman.

“On behalf of the residents and team members of Erickson Senior Living, it is an honor to further strengthen our partnership with the American Cancer Society by sponsoring a Hope Lodge guest room,” stated Mr. Colon. “Witnessing the impact of services provided to patients and caregivers by the Hope Lodge, not only in Baltimore but also across the country, was inspiring. We are proud to be affiliated with an organization that makes such a profound impact on the health and well-being of so many.”

Team members of Erickson Senior Living supported the Hope Lodge in other meaningful ways through the National Day of Service inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. They wrote personal messages in “cards of hope” and created care packages with toiletries and other items for Hope Lodge guests. Erickson Senior Living team members also have the opportunity to give to ACS through the company’s donation match program.

“The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge community in Baltimore is extremely grateful for Erickson Senior Living’s generous donation toward our future, reimagined Hope Lodge that will serve more cancer patients who travel to Baltimore for treatment and need a place to stay cost-free,” said Tswana Sewell, Vice President, Greater DC/Baltimore Chapter of the American Cancer Society. “Erickson Senior Living specializes in high quality, senior community living, so their professionals understand that Hope Lodge is more than just a free, comfortable place to sleep – we are a community that provides a caring staff, along with the fellowship and companionship of others who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis.”

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Baltimore, MD, which opened in 1987, offers 26 guest rooms located near treatment centers in the area. Each Hope Lodge offers a supportive, homelike environment where guests can share a meal, join in the evening’s activities, or unwind in their own private room. The Hope Lodge community is in the midst of an expansion plan to increase its capacity from 26 guest rooms to 34 guest rooms, providing an additional 3,000 free night stays annually.
